Small businesses are the lifeblood of our community, they employ our friends and neighbors, and are often the first jobs of our teens. They support local causes, events, and sports teams. They are innovators, creators, and care about customers like no other businesses do. If you're a frequent customer, they probably know your name.
Many small businesses owners are are some of the hardest working and more dedicated people who pour their heart and souls into their business. In many cases the owners work countless behind the scenes and don't seek the limelight.
These monthly small business spotlights will flip the switch and will shine a bright light on THEM that they so richly deserve!
Here at MacKID we're all about making life easier for parents, and connecting you with more resources right here in our community is one way we do that. Small Business Spotlights help fulfill this mission!
Each month I will highlight what I love about a local business. Then I'll turn over the virtual microphone to them to talk about their business in their own words, while answering a short series of questions. You will see the Spotlights in both an article on our homepage and newsletter and in social media posts.
Please note this project is a work-in-progress, and I'm open to any and all ideas on how to make this fun, informative, and helpful for all. I welcome your feedback!

🧡 Why I love Gourmet Pizza and Subs
Confession: Gourmet Pizza and Subs is right in my Riviera Beach neighborhood of Pasadena. My family has been going for years, and it's been "our local pizza shop." Gourmet Pizza and Subs is the very essence of a small, family owned, no-frills diner with AMAZING homemade comfort food.
I love Gourmet Pizza and Subs for both their delicious homestyle feel-good food and gracious hospitality. It feels like the heart of Riviera Beach —locally owned, warm, and familiar in a way that big chains just can’t match. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted with the satisfying smells of a small diner and friendly service from Bob and Lorraine and their small staff who actually know and care for their customers.
Their pizzas, subs, and other options are pure comfort food: simple, delicious, and made with care, all at reasonable prices that make it easy to stop by anytime. It has that unmistakable small-town feel where everyone is welcome, and the food feels like a warm hug.
My favorite orders: their signature Taco Pizza, Sloppy Joes, and Baltimore Reuben. The Taco Pizza is seriously the best I've ever had, and everyone in my family gets cravings for it. You can thank me later! And where else can you get a Sloppy Joe these day? It's not only nostalgic for me, it REALLY is very good. If you love seafood and sandwiches, the Baltimore Reuben combines the best of both.
