5 Reasons Body Back is Better Than the Gym

This week, I had a scheduling conflict, so I had to hit the gym instead of Fit4Mom's Body Back class.  I grabbed a class at the gym-my sister-in-law told me it was going to be a great work out-she's clearly never done Body Back.  So I started thinking about the reasons Body Back is better:


  1. ​The instructors know my name.  This seems like a minor detail, I'm sure-but when I'm down on the ground trying to get the most out of my workout, hearing an instructor say, "you've got it, Katy, give me 5 more reps" goes a long way.  I know they are invested in me-and pushing me just a little harder than I would push myself.
  2. The class has a smaller group setting-where the gym class had about 35 people in it and no one I knew, the smaller group settings allow for the instructors to give personalized attention to each mom in the class.  They can help adjust form, show you a modification or just encourage you to press on. 
  3. Camaraderie and encouragement: I can always count on my fellow moms to cheer me on during a work-out, and I can do the same for them.  We are in it together, fighting for one more rep.  There's no strangers, only friends.
  4. Online-Support-Fit4Mom programs have a Facebook group just for you!  In it, you can find your fellow mama-beasts sharing tips, tricks, and struggles.  Last month, when I knew one of my boys was having surgery and I'd be out of the loop for a while, I posted that I was worried about not getting my workouts in each week.  I quickly got several responses telling me to fit it in during down time: squatting while the tub was filling, push ups while we're getting dressed...and you know what?  It totally worked!  
  5. This is a program for moms-run by moms. What does that mean?  We're all in this together.  We get when you've had a rough day because no one napped. We get that there might be some leakage when you do those jumping jacks. We get that your house is run by tiny tyrants and you're just there to serve.  And you know what?  We've got your back!  

It only took me one class at the gym to realize that I don't want to go back!  I love the tribe at Fit4Mom Severn. But that's not all! They have great social activities such as Moms' Nights Out and Play Groups. There's a larger Fit4Mom Village Facebook Group-like the mom's club you didn't know you were missing: they've got advice on everything from fitness apparel, to parenting questions, to home improvement recommendations!
