Ashley Ward and her mom, Denise, love to shop at consignment shops and sales. Denise recounted buying Ashley's private school uniforms from a consignment shop decades ago. They could only think of one time over the years that they have purchased something brand new from a store: this past Easter when they wanted matching outfits.
So when opportunity presented itself, this hardworking family jumped at the chance and began stocking up for a brand new consignment shop of their own! In a matter of weeks, they had a shop that was cleaned and painted, some stock of their own, set up their computer systems, and began accepting consignors.
This Tuesday, June 10th, 2014 Wear It Again, Sam will open its doors at 3020 Mountain Road (near Pic N Paint Pottery). It was clear to me as I visited the shop, people in the community are just as excited about the store opening as the owners! There were at least 3 people who stopped in the hour I was there asking if they were open yet. Ashley and Denise pride theirselves on offering only the best items. "Everything has been buttoned, zipped, and snapped if it has it, all the toys have been tried and every game and puzzle has all the pieces." They will be accepting only items in excellent condition.
For those of you (like me) who have shopped consignment, but never consigned anything, this is how it will work: Every consignor pays a one time consignor fee of $5. The duo will go through your items and decide which items they will take. As I mentioned above, they will be selective in taking only the best items (no rips, tears, pilling, stains, missing items, etc.) and create a consignor contract. The contract will last for 60 days. Whatever the sale price is, the store will split 50/50 with the consignor-and you'll be able to pick up your money anytime after your items sell. This is different than most consignment shops who split 60/40 with only 40% going to the consignor. They are currently accepting summer clothing. They will accept most baby furniture (depending on the size)-and plan to create a Facebook page where folks can list larger items that might not fit in the store. They will also be accepting maternity clothes, pregnancy items, books, toys, etc. No stuffed animals. If you have something large-feel free to bring/send them photos rather than loading it and bringing to the store first.
Wear It Again, Sam will open its doors on Tuesday and will be open Tuesday-Saturday 10-4. They are open to listening to their clients-if they need to offer Mom's Night's Out for special shopping days, they will. They are also expecting to partner with a local farm for fresh egg pick ups once a week! Stop by and say hello-tell them Macaroni Kid sent you!
