Hi Macaroni Kids Families!

We’ve finally made it through the cold, so your minds may be set on grilling, which is perfect for this time of year. However, another highlight of this month is that May is the beginning of blueberry season!  Blueberries are such a versatile (and powerfully nutritious!) fruit that kids and adults both love and their reach goes far beyond pies and muffins.  Check out some of my favorite blueberry recipes, and a few that are featured in this month’s Savory Magazine at Giant!

-Smoothies:  Tired of the same old smoothie?  Add blueberries for a sweet kick of disease-preventing antioxidants and a color that kids will love!  Check out the recipe here:  https://recipecenter.giantfood.com/recipes/28032/blueberry-pear-smoothie

-Grilled Cheese (trust me!):  Want to impress guests while keeping your kids happy?Make fancy grilled cheese!  This recipe creates a simple blueberry jam to dress up your sandwich for a decadent lunch.  Just add a side of veggies for balance and you’ve hit all 5 food groups!https://recipecenter.giantfood.com/recipes/152626/blueberry-ham-and-brie-grilled-cheese

-Breakfast… Popsicles?!:  Your kids will love having permission to eat a popsicle for breakfast- and you can feel great about giving it!  By combining plain Greek yogurt with fresh blueberries and granola, kids get a balanced breakfast on a stick!  Nothing beats summer heat like a breakfast pop:  https://recipecenter.giantfood.com/recipes/152619/blueberry-yogurt-breakfast-pops

-Blueberries for dinner!:Did you know?  Pork or chicken are extra juicy with a berry salsa on top. These two recipes highlight other in-season produce like strawberries and cherries for a color- and flavor-filled meal! https://recipecenter.giantfood.com/recipes/33455/parmesan-walnut-chicken-with-berry-saucehttps://recipecenter.giantfood.com/recipes/28361/pork-tenderloin-with-cherry-berry-salsa

-True Blue Burgers:  Yep, in this recipe, we’ve added blueberries right into the burger. If you think you’ve had a juicy burger before- think again!  Once your kids love it, try this later on in the summer with other fruits for a kid-friendly culinary adventure!  https://recipecenter.giantfood.com/recipes/28773/true-blue-burgers

I hope that you feel inspired to celebrate with blueberries this month!  Until next month, eat well!
