Lil' Bites: Boredom-Buster Meal Inspiration

By Emily Craft, RDN, CSP, LDN August 2, 2018

Hey Macaroni Kids Families!

How did August arrive so quickly?  At this point, you might be looking for a little boredom-busting meal inspiration, so I thought we would talk about my favorite way to get a bunch of food groups (and therefore nutrients!) into one easy item- wraps!  I love wraps because they work for every meal and even snacks, plus they are super customizable for the varied food preferences in your family. You might even be inspired to carry these into the back to school time for on the go breakfast or bento box lunches!

-Banana and peanut butter is one of my favorite combinations.  The gooey PB with naturally sweet banana is a great way to start a morning, plus peanut butter packs 7g protein per serving and is a good source of unsaturated fats.  Rolling this combo into a wrap makes for an easy morning and a full belly- what more could you ask for?  Check out a recipe here:  https://www.flatoutbread.com/recipes/banana-peanut-butter-and-honey-roll-ups/

-If you’re looking to pack a meal with fruits and veggies without kids even noticing, you’ll want to try this Avocado- Strawberry Wrap.  Filled with tropical mango and creamy avocado, this wrap will make you feel like you’re on vacation while loading you and your kiddos up with vitamins C and K.  For easy extra protein, throw on a few pieces of rotisserie chicken.  Dinner is served!

-Running out the door to soak up those last few weeks of sun at the pool?  Fill your kids up with a quick hummus pinwheel.  Simply make your wrap, then cut it into slices for a shareable snack.  There are plenty of flavor combos with hummus and friends, but I like a classic hummus with roasted turkey and spinach.  Here’s some more flavor inspo:  https://www.flatoutbread.com/recipes/two-minute-hummus-wrap/

-For an easy dinner that will please the simple palates at home, a classic chicken wrap is a great answer. If you’re enjoying grilling season, feel free to throw your chicken on the grill or stay cool and sauté on the stove.Either way, serve these simple wraps with some fresh and juicy watermelon and you’ve covered all 5 food groups in under 15 minutes.  Recipe is here:  https://recipecenter.giantfood.com/recipes/28431/chicken-wraps

Well, Mac Kids families, enjoying wrapping up your summer (had to do it!) and I will catch you in September!

Until next time, eat well!
