Do your kids love thrilling experiences? Are you and your kids looking for high action activities to do together? There's a Scout troop in our area perfect for them!
Scout Troop 1785 is Anne Arundel County’s youth lead High Adventure Scout troop. We have been camping just about every month since 1977. That is a lot of camping!
Invitation To A Winter Cabin Camping Weekend
You are invited to join us for a warm cabin camping weekend at Broadcreek Scout Reservation in Harford County, Friday night 1/31 through Sunday 2/2. We will have fun playing games, learning about scouting, and practicing orienteering skills (map and compass) outdoors.
For more information about attending our upcoming cabin weekend, please visit troop1785.org.
All About Troop 1785
Troop 1785 offers a High Adventure version of the traditional Scouting experience for youth from 10-1/2 to 18 years old. Service, community engagement, and leadership development become increasingly important parts of the program as youth lead their own activities and work their way toward earning Scouting’s highest rank, Eagle Scout.
Along with Thursday evening troop meetings and monthly weekend camping, we attend two-week High Adventure trips every other summer. We attend a traditional one-week Summer Camp the year in between High Adventure years.
Troop 1785 owns whitewater canoes, trailers, and other gear that make our monthly high adventure camping possible. We also have the experience to make adventure-filled camping accessible to all ages and skill levels.
High Aventures Trips
Our two-week High Adventure trip planned for the summer of 2026 includes canoeing the New River in West Virginia, white water rafting, backpacking in the Dolly Sods natural area, a cave tour, coal mine tour, Cass Scenic Railway ride, Green Bank radio observatory tour, and an airshow. Past High Adventure trips have included sailing down the Florida Keys, snorkeling and fishing each day.
We recently canoed the Allagash River in Maine, and you can see a slide show of those images on the troop1785.org home page. This past July we backpacked 100 miles through the Sangre de Cristo mountains of New Mexico.
We specialize in high adventure activities, but that doesn't mean we are an older scouts troop. One of the reasons we started our own high adventure trips in 1984 was because the National scout high adventure camps require scouts to be 14 to attend. Our trips are never age restricted, we know how to have a great adventure, even for an 11 year old.
And although we are a troop that camps a lot and has a lot of fun, we don't let advancement fall by the side. We just celebrated our 40th Eagle ceremony and have several more planned for 2025.
Annual BINGO Fundraiser - May 10
All of this fun sounds expensive, but a Scout is Thrifty (ninth point of the Scout Law). Membership in Troop 1785 is not expensive, and we fundraise once a year to cover our costs. That fundraiser is a BINGO held by the Friends of Troop 1785.
This year the BINGO is Saturday May 10th, the evening before Mother’s Day. This BINGO is a lot of fun with great food and a variety of games and raffles. Take your mom out for fun and a dinner at BINGO!

All of this sounds like a lot of fun, doesn’t it? Hint, Hint, if you want to join in on the fun, have your child or grandchild join our troop, and adults are welcome to come too. We can always use another adult to join in on the adventure.
